Merry merry christmas...

merry merry christmas,
lonely lonely christmas....

i dont remember exactly if i really had a christmas countdown in the past years.
remembering how i spent christmas in the past year.
Last year i was in Vietnam...
the year before i was in Taiwan...
the year before i went back to ipoh...
this year im in my room...

I have heard how crazy and crowded the streets are....
people wearing all kinds of masks and deco for xmas...
with all the decorations on the streets...

christmas are fun i guess but i dont remember having any real countdown or celebration on the streets.

Perhaps it would be fun to countdown on the streets someday....

its great to have a weekend..

Its great to have a weekend i realize. And i foresee the long one will be even better.

Has been 2 weeks after i started my internship, which obviously requires me to wake up early in the morning and rush to work taking 40minutes bus and train. now that i have realized its hard in the working world in the previous post where there were really not much time on weekdays to do anything u like to. now i realize its great to have a weekend. The reason i said so is because i woke up at 3pm today. no reason. just too nice to sleep.

Altho i did wake up at 730 once. coz used to it.
Another time at 9+. went back to sleep coz the weather is just too nice.
another time at 11+. thought that i should wake up, so i did wake up turn on my laptop and went on facebook after 20 minutes figured that i should embrace the great weekend and end up waking at 3pm. Life is great !

Well ok....life is great (only when i can sleep as long as i want to and can choose to do nothing)

So it was nothing productive until dinner time (expected when u wake up at 3) and now i just got started off with my FYP...playing around with the software that im supposed to be expert by now. trying to figure out where to find info and how to input stuffs.

For some reason i tot that my blog have not been updated for a while so i decided to write some stuff here. :P

O yea, NLDS is over i heard. I only went for the global village part and gala dinner..and dropped by opening plenary of 1st day and skulling too. other than that i didnt know what happened throughout the thing. But u just cant miss the fact that a conference is over because u will see a flood of people adding each other and uploading pics and commenting and tagging.

i mean its obvious right..who will upload album named "NLDS-part 7" if the conference is still going on. or who will go and tag a picture of almost 50 people and keep commenting on pics if the conference is not over.

Aww...conferences....

work life balance

Its my 3rd day at work today. By the time i reached my room its already 815 and i havent had dinner. Everyday in the morning i had to get out of my room by 8am and basically the life repeats itself. I wonder if this will be the working life after grad.

Life is repetitive, on one hand the internship im doing is interesting. The company do stuff related to developing renewable energy, CDM, carbon trading and all sorts and its exciting to be in the industry. Im still trying to absorb as much as i can everyday and i found something interesting to work on. The office environment is great, very flexible, very challenging but at the same time it takes up so much time. 1 hour to travel to work, another hour back. Thats my life. But from what i see from some colleague at work, they leave work later than me. god knows what time they leave the office.

Now i see the point of work life balance. means u have work and life balanced out.
That means if you have 24 hours a day, 12 hours will be your life. and the other 12 will be....obviously work !!

of the 12 hours of work, you obviously have to work + travel to work + lunch

of the 12 hours of "life", you obviously need to include dinner, breakfast, shower, prepare for work, sleep, shopping, laundry, and do whatever you want. Assume that you have more that you want to do which is the usual case for most people, then u might have to cut time off dinner, or breakfast, or less sleep for you....unless u choosing not to shower.

So most people end up having not much time for what they want to do.

wouldnt life be boring if its so repetitive?

waddup !

So waddup with the coming few weeks.

Exams. Its been half past study week in NUS and exams are starting on 25th which is next wednesday. After the 3rd paper on 2nd december i will be free for about a month before stepping into the final semester. exciting but scary at the same time, having the thoughts of no more exams are great but job hunting, loan repayment and the reality will hit hard.

Anyways, after paper on 2nd december, its gonna be slacking for a few days with a trip to Genting on the night of 4th dec. After which i have to rush back to start my internship. O yea, thats the internship i went for interview on tuesday and got it. so my december gonna be spent on this internship besides working on my FYP, but the good thing is both of them are somewhat related. Am glad that many things are falling into place right now. Im lucky :D

And plans for CNY already made, will be back home from thursday til the next sunday nite. its gonna be the longest CNY break i have had. I guess after CNY will be very busy with final FYP preps, exams prep, job hunting and mentally preparing for life.

Though am still hoping to go somewhere after grad, but seems like financially its not gonna be something big...that is if there is gonna be something.

Life is great. :D

kiasuness

After spending 3+ years in singapore, today is the only day i experience kiasu-ness to the max !

I just came back from a test. It was a final exam, 35% for one of my module. The prof mentioned that its a open book, open notebook, open laptop, open watever test. So it sounded scary at first but later the prof sent an email about the test timing and venue and other stuff, he specifically mentioned laptop are not necessary for the test in the email, which i think he bold it.

So this morning i happily (stupidly) not bring my laptop going for the test. Reaching the classroom it was ok until everyone who came in the 1st thing they do is switch on their laptop. Until i saw the class of 30 people with 29 laptops(u and me know who didnt bring his laptop)

ARGH !!
Am i just lacking the kia part of kiasuness or am i just pure dumb.

Anyways, with the laptop maybe there wont be much difference. but the feeling of im dumb coz i didnt bring it keeps coming back...

perhaps i could have gotten 2 or 4 more marks for the test with my laptop. who knows.

Interesting me

too hot only sweat, too cold can fall sick and die

The prof in one of my module said something interesting today. About the designing of systems for buildings, he said something must cater to the heating requirement. And somehow he explained that it is because if its hot, people can feel uncomfortable and at most sweat but if its too cold, people might fall sick and die.

Its interesting because it reminds me of one of the days in my primary school, one of my teacher also said something similar. I remember it was in the morning and some of my classmates were complaining that its too cold and ask the teacher to switch off the fan. The teacher asked the class and some others complaint that it will be too hot if the fan is off.

The teacher then asked who wants the fan off and a few put up their hands. Then she asked who wants the fans on and a few others put up their hands.

Then she said, we should turn off the fan because its ok if we feel abit hot. But for those who feel cold, they can fall sick if we keep the fan on. That explains why she asked us to switch off the fan.

I dont know why but for some reason this scene is actually stucked in my head for so many years and i still remember some details of it.

Interesting huh.

This is the world we live in

I was looking at aljaeera and guess wats the 3 biggest headlines

Rape used as weapon in DR Congo war
Brigadier killed in Pakistan ambush
Goldstone dares US on Gaza report

are there too much negativity?
Check out any list of headlines, u see words like rape, hijack, attack, bomb, kills. Are those the only happenings around the world? If only we have a news website which only reports the good news.

Just this random thought i went to google goodnews and here i found there are really such websites. reports only good news. check out goodnewsnetwork and happynews. They might not be as popular as cnn, but i think people these days need a dose of them from time to time. Life cant be great when u are surrounded by those negative headlines.

Talked to some @ers recently and i realized something special about them. Some of these people really believe that they gotta do something. they have a role to play in the world. Probably too much brainwashing, but we do believe that we can change the world. Having a decent job is not enough. Life cant just stop there after u go through this weird XP thingy.

They feel like making a living with a day to day job is not enough. getting a stream of decent income is not enough. making the impact to themselves and their family is not enough. With the "we can change the world" kind of attitude, more and more people are looking at jobs that can make a difference not only to themselves and their family, but to the society and the world. I am inspired. Thats how the hardwork we have spent so much time in is changing the world. creating change agent. Change agents who are not satisfied with the impact they make to the world.

So many people have been job hunting recently while im still confused about what i gonna do after i graduate. Im pretty sure that i wan a job that can inspire me. something that i can be passionate about. something that helps me feel like im making a difference.

Im glad that some people are clear about their dreams, no matter how hard it is, they gonna keep moving to that direction. I feel sad that some people are stuck in where they are, hating their job but yet, cant move away from it.

I guess it really takes alot of courage to go for something that u really want. I congratulate those who have the courage to give up whatever they need to do something to their life. I hope that those who havent got the courage will have it soon enough. Life might be better, or it might be not, but its probably gonna keep us moving and waking up in the morning again.

I wonder if i will find the thing that will wake me up every morning in the future.

Well, This is the world we live in.

I dont understand what i have written. But does it matter?

I got my air con. I am happy. Really?

I was sleeping. Wanted to sleep until tmr morning. But woke up.
Feeling a little hot.

I went to get some drinks.
Its so hot. And im so bored.
Wanted to do some work.

But its so hot. And im so bored.
Its friday night and im in my room.
What kind of life i have.

Sat down a while in my room.
Feeling bored. And hot.

I go to get drinks in the kitchen again.
Somehow this process repeats itself for a few times.

Cant stand it.
I packed my stuff. I get down to TV room.
A place with air con.
But its packed.
Packed with groups of people.
A group of them playing cards.
A group of them waiting to get out to party.
A group of them with laptops.
A group of them just chatting.

Im not in a group and there were no space.
I went to another TV room nearby.
There is another guy in there.
Alone too.
I joined him.

I got my aircon.
I am happy.

I got my daily dose of rootbeer. I am happy.

Went to dinner at PGP canteen. Had my typical meal at the prata stall.

Finished meal.

Go to nanyang mart wanting to get my favorite bottle of root beer.
Picked up a bottle of soya milk on the way.
Realize the blue colored one i usually buy is not available.
Randomly picked the orange color one.

Reached cluster kitchen.
Opened the pack of cold soya milk.
Realized that its almond flavored just before i started drinking.
Drank soya milk.
Feeling disgusted.
ALMOND FLAVORED SOYA MILK IS HORRIBLE.

Opened up the bottle of root beer.
Took a sip.

I got my daily dose of rootbeer. I am Happy.

热死我啦!!hot die me lar !!

刚冲了凉,回到房间不够三分钟,全身又湿了。我明明有抹干身体才出冲凉房的!!

Nobel Peace Prize Winner 2009 : Mr Barack Obama

President Barack Obama said Friday that he was humbled by the decision of the Norwegian Nobel Committee to award him the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
President Obama, speaking Friday, said the award was "an affirmation of American leadership."

President Obama, speaking Friday, said the award was "an affirmation of American leadership."

"I am both surprised and deeply humbled," Obama said at the White House.

"I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments. But rather as an affirmation of American leadership. ... I will accept this award as a call to action."

Obama said he did not feel he deserves "to be in the company" of past winners, but would continue to push a broad range of international objectives, including nuclear non-proliferation, a reversal of the global economic downturn, and a resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

He acknowledged the ongoing U.S. conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, noting that he is the "commander in chief of a country that is responsible for ending" one war and confronting a dangerous adversary in another.

"This award is not simply about my administration," he said. It "must be shared" with everyone who strives for "justice and dignity."

1000 lashes + 5 years

I remember having a conversation with some chinese friends and they couldnt understand why do we have lashes in our law. when i tell them about it they seem to be shocked that such thing exists. But to us its normal and u hear news reporters talk about maximum punishment will be X number of years or Y number of lashes or both.

And i was reading this news about this guy from Saudi, interviewed and his interview showed over the TV. The problem come about when he talked about his sex life in the interview. Saudi being an islamic country obviously didnt like it and gave him a sentence that will make him suffer for his remaining life.

5 years and 1000 lashes. I wonder how the 1000 lashes are going to be executed. if it is similar to the lashes we know in Malaysia, then i wish him best of luck. and seriously..comparing the 5 years and 1000 lashes. 5 years is negligible.

Google Hot Trends

If you have been using igoogle, then u would know about this. But for me, i wasnt using igoogle that much before this but accidentally went into my own igoogle page i created some time ago. Out of curiosity i went to click on add stuff which is a button to browse through applications to add on to personalize the igoogle page and i found this. Google hot trends !

I remember coming across this google trend thingy some time back and i find it interesting. Using it you can look at trends or popularity of certain keywords. For example if you search the word Malaysia in google trends, it shows you a graph of how frequent the word was searched in the past 6 months or 1 year or watever time period you specify. Whats more is it identify the peak of those searches and relate it with news about the keywords.

For example if you search Malaysia as a keyword here is roughly what u will get.

So whats new about this googe hot trends thingy in the igoogle page is that it shows you whats the hottest trend ie which keyword is the most popular keyword being searched online (using google search engine of course). I remember the other day i found facebook more powerful than news coz its like real time report from your connection of friends. But this hot trends allow you to see whats new in the world. Of course some of them are probably useless news and stuff, but it does help you keep in touch with the world getting the latest news.

A check on my google hot trends in singapore showed some keywords like sunshine empire, zhang yun jing, and tracy ang in mild hotness. Wonder what will be the next hot keyword.

Ipoh Specialty

Over the recess week, some of my friends visited ipoh and i had some hard time thinking about which are the specialties of ipoh and where to bring them. I went to search a little online and most mentioned ipoh white coffee, tauge chicken, hor fun, dim sum, and so on. It wasnt until this afternoon which we went to this place in pasir pinji commonly called 大树脚 and my friend went over to buy a packet of mengkuang equivalent. Everyone was enjoying it so much but i was not able to translate it into either english or chinese. The only name i know about that was the malay version or the cantonese version (usually referred to as 沙葛) To my surprise, its something unique and its so unique that people from Johor have never tried it before. Perhaps it should be listed as top fav after foh san dim sum or ipoh tauge chicken or ipoh white coffee, we can call it ipoh "sa kot".

Today i went to search for news about ipoh and i found this article which talks about Ipoh specialty, it does mention most of the things we went to but what came to my surprise is that not only mentioned sa kot is a special thing, there are other stuff that were so common to us but it cant be found anywhere else. According to that article, this sa kot supposed to be from Perak and you can hardly find it in other states of Malaysia. Though i doubt so since most ipoh food can be found in KL, i wont be surprised if i find it in KL. Anyway, the other surprise is something we called "wan tau long", directly translated to (giddy-headed bloke) or yellow Jelly. Im not exactly sure if it can be found elsewhere but i felt a little bad because i didnt bring my friends to try that out.
So the next time anyone brings a friend to ipoh, i guess these should be added into the new list of "must tries" in ipoh.

And here i copied part of the article on how to make the sa kot. Tho i like it a lot, but its not that temp
ting that i would put in so much effort to make it in the kitchen. Im putting it for those non-ipohans who have tried it and want it so badly but dont want to travel all the way from where they are to Ipoh for 2 pieces of sa kot with some white coffee.

And by the way, i realize sa kot is actually called yam bean according to the article. I tried google it and images of sa kot really do come out. So i guess here it is. Sa kot, mengkuang or yam bean.

Sar Kok Liew (makes two rolls)

Sar Kok Liew is a regional specialty, especially around Ipoh. The popular deep-fried yambean fritters are usually found in noodle stalls as part of the yong liew stable.

Outside Perak, Sar Kok Liew is hard to come by.

Filling

650g yambean, coarsely shredded

100g plain flour

50g fish paste

15g fried shallot crisps

1 tsp salt, or to taste

2 tsp sugar

1/4 tsp white pepper

1 piece beancurd sheet (foo pei), cut into two rectangles measuring 19x27cm

2 tsp flour, mixed with

1 tsp water to make a paste

oil for deep frying

Combine all the filling ingredients in a mixing bowl to make a sticky paste. Divide filling into two portions; place each portion on a beancurd sheet and roll the sheet to form a cigar-like roll of 5cm diameter. Seal the edges of the roll with flour paste.

Place rolls on a greased plate and steam over high heat for about eight minutes, or until roll is set. Cool, and cut into 1.5cm thick pieces.

Heat oil in wok; deep fry over medium heat until edges are crisp. Remove and drain on absorbent paper towels before serving.

Earth quake indonesia, magnitude 7.9

i just came back from class and switched on my laptop. Automatically the 1st page loaded up is facebook. As usual i screen through the list of status updates of all my "friends" and i noticed alot of them mentioned about shake tremor or quake. But i didnt really feel it. Seeing people from KL,melaka, johor and singapore posted something related to the shake i think there are some truth to it. I posted "so many people say they felt earthquake on facebook...got meh...." and somehow it generated some discussion. It was not until 10-15 minutes later that online news start to have short reports on the quake.

Conclusion? facebook is more powerful than news. If you read through newspaper everyday, how can you not login to facebook and read your friend's status message every 2 minutes?

Lets hope everything is fine with the dear neighbor.

As @ers say, when we hear a news of another country, its not only a piece of news, its update about my friends' homeland. Hope that all my friends are not affected by this quake.

Interesting me.

Recess week.

It was a good recess week.

Spent the 1st few days going around nearby places like cameron and pangkor island and had a great time eating around ipoh. Havent been home for one whole week that often except during CNY period.

Of course life at home is nothing other than eat and sleep. hopefully i dont get addicted to these and i can get back to uni life now.

Of course picture says more than anything else.

A trip to ipoh is of course not complete
without white coffee and Fu shan dim sum...dim sum is the 1st thing we did after we reach ipoh at 7+ am. even after fu shan moved to a much bigger shop, its still super super crowded that we had to wait for half an hour before we get any seats.

The white coffee is still as nice as ever....but its getting more and more expensive. The original old town shop is still alright, costs about 1.40 a glass, the franchise version charge 2.80 for a glass of white coffee, thats double the original shop, for aircon, wifi, and more ice in the cup.
Then its cameron highlands. i dont even remember when was
the last time i went there, maybe 4-5 years back or so...its about 1.5 hour drive up hill and slightly shorter time down hill. we made a 1 morning trip. moving up around 8+ am and coming down around 2pm. Its a really nice when its cold in the morning but not so when it gets hot and crowded from lunch time onwards.
We also went to Pangkor island. We took a bus which cost RM8.40. for the 2 hours of uncomfortable seats and heater in the bus, it feels like a trip in an oven. From there its another 30mins of ferry ride over to the island. After which things got better, we rent a terrace house near pasir bogak beach(costs less than 1 night hotel room) which 9 of us fit in comfortably. went out snorkeling and check out the beach not forgetting banana boat at the end of the day.

Something i need to mention here is the new addition to my room after the trip back home.
Thats the picture of my niece and nephew with a handphone deco gift from a friend.

arent my niece cute and adorable...she is like 7 or 8 months old now.

and the c ute nice clay art deco gift from my friend. The whole thing is made of clay and she is really into making these stuff and some miniature art. She got a whole lot of other stuff that she makes and those pic in her blog is so interesting. I was so amazed after seeing those stuff at her house the other day. Hope people will appreciate these art stuff some day.

Do check out http://half-lemon.blogspot.com/

Tagging feature on facebook status

Interestingly, the internet world is a connected world.

Some features that i liked the most about facebook is that it allows u to upload unlimited pictures. more than that is that u can tag your friends in those pictures. this idea of tagging would become much more fun that now you can even tag others on the facebook status. its really getting more and more similar to twitter...i wonder who tweets anymore since fb actually have features so similar to twitter.

A typical day of life in NUS

A typical day of life in NUS starts in the morning.

Tuesday.
The alarm clock started buzzing off at 8.15am, after a few snoozes, i got up at 8.30 shocked and try to get myself ready in lightning speed. Rushed to the bus stop at 845 got on the bus heading to engineering faculty.

I was gonna be late but i poped by the canteen anyways to grab a curry puff and a drink. To fill up my stomach at the same time keep me awake during the early morning class. I reached class around 9.15, and the lecturer hasnt really started teaching. I quickly find a seat and take out my notes put it on the table and then i start to enjoy my breakfast while listening or trying to listen to the lecturer.

After the class at about 11, i went to have an early lunch and come back to get a nap.
Woke up around 2+ to do some readings and then get ready for my class. Left around 3+, meet up with a friend and head for class together.
Class from 4-6 is a little boring so i had to get more food to keep me awake during class. After the class meet up with 2 friends for dinner and discussion for a project that we are working on.

The discussion went on until around 9ish and went back to my room. started working on it until 1am and went for supper and had a chat with a friend until around 2am. Went to sleep after that.

Wednesday.
Again, the alarm had to do the work of waking me up. Buzzed off at 8am and snoozed until 815. Rushed over to the class around 835. grabbed myself a standard puff and a drink. did a short presentation in the class which ended at 12. met up with the team mates for the meeting on the project and lunch.

The discussion went on until around 2pm and i went back to the room. Had a quick shower, changed and got ready to leave the room again. Went for a recruitment talk at 3pm.

Attending recruitment talk is like the trend for all final year students who are kiasu and concern about looking for a job. The one today was alright, some people of course tried to show off themselves and asked "unique" questions during the talk. But anyways, i didnt bother to ask any questions and left immediately at about 5. Took a nap and it went on until almost 9pm.

Wake up to switch on the laptop and watched a movie and worked on writing projects for a while. Chatted on msn along the way and its 11.30pm.

Thats like a typical 2 days part of the whole week of my life. Sometimes i wonder how much more interesting it could possibly get. If anyone has any solutions to making it more interesting i would really much want to know.

人变了?或事变了?还是都变了。

Sometimes things happen that makes u wonder if its the people who have changed or the environment have changed.
Somehow things doesnt fit in anymore.
Perhaps everything have changed.

Maybe if its viewed from another perspective, everything is just temporary.

I am a student

Wake up at 830 ran for class at 9am. Picked up bfast on the way. Stayed awake the whole class.
Bfast : 0.90 curry puff + 1.40 Juice.

After class went for an early lunch and then head to the library. Was online most of the time but did manage to read a few papers for my FYP.

Went for another class at 3pm. Got a coffee and chicken pie for my class to wake me up. Stayed awake for almost 45 minutes and fell asleep at the last slide before the break. Went to get some food stuff and another drink to keep myself awake for the rest of the class and I did !!
Coffee + chicken pie = 2.30
Potato salad + spagheti + ice mocha = 4.10

I spent extra much today and i was eating all the way in all classes but the good thing is i actually did listen in class and understood stuff from my lecture. GREAT! whats even better is i didnt go back and take a nap(i usually do) between classes and went to the library instead. AWESOME !!

The point is not to highlight how much i spent for the day but to highlight i FELT like a student again after long time not having that feeling. And im exhausted. Its really tiring to stay focused in class and listen to lecture. But its good to feel like a student. :D

On another note. I was chatting with a friend online and he was telling me about this Management Trainee sort of program for this bank and i went to check it out. turn out to be they only want people with degree higher than 2nd upper. I was like the 1st criteria already failed. While my friend who has a 1st class in hand at the moment said : most of them want 2nd upper what.....
And i was like...only if i have studied hard since year 1..i wonder if i would be getting a 2nd upper.

the convo ended something like him saying : you want to go this bank do MT or go keppel repair ships..its up to u lah...

hmmm.....lets hope i dont end up repairing ships....

productive hours

Its now 6.15pm

Looking back at the day. i woke up at 8.30, rushed for class and moved on with the day, how many hours have i spent productively?

On the assumption that :
Time in class are productive.
Time having lunch with friends are productive (u build connection)

2+1+2 = 5

out of almost 10 hours of the day less than half of them are actually productive. Other times are spent on :
facebooking
waiting for bus
msn
taking a nap
walking from one place to another
sitting down waiting for the computer to be switched on
toilet and do whatever you do in the toilet
Q-ing for something

How to be efficient like that ??

first week

Have been back to the same timezone for a week now, havent been to the airport so many times in a weeks time before.
Day 1, Airport 1 : touch down at 9++ pm, waited for a while for some friends who shared the cab back to pgp.
Day 2, Airport 2 : went to have dinner and send cathy off.
Day 3, Airport 3 : took a flight to KL for family gathering
Day 6, Airport 4 : Came back from KL after family meet up.
Day 8, Airport 5 : sent laura off

I really liked the airport, the atmosphere and stuff like that but the only problem i had with it is that its too far away..it usually takes 1.5 hours to get there and anotehr 1.5 to get back.
Who in the world has so many 1.5 hours.

Just went for the @ welcome tea today and am happy with the turn out...it was sort of not so much expected but its a good thing. Am sure the next team can produce amazing results. :D

Talinn quickie

Havent really got time to update the blog. am just taking the 15 minutes waiting for people to do this real quick.

so after the interesting berlin which is full of history, i went over to stockholm.

o, in berlin i tried out the free tour and it turned out to be really nice..i wouldnt have known about which building MJ put out the baby which caused a big news that time, i wont know which place did hitler die and was last seen and i wont have met 2 random malaysians in berlin as well.

and stockholm i think is a must go. its the top choice now because the city is really really pretty..made of 14 island and over 30 bridges.how can a city b not nice with that.

and then i went on to stay with a couchsurfer in riga for 2 days, random things happening, joined random CS painting party and did hitchhiking for the 1st time in my life. exciting fun random riga.

and here i am in talinn, just got here in the afternoon and so far have been around the old town. its really nice and beautiful, thats why they deserve the UNESCO thingy for the city i guess...

gonna go check out the free tour tmr...lets see...

next destinations : Vilnius, Lithuania and Krakow, Poland

Berlin Quickie

Gotta make a quick update from Berlin.

its 11pm and im too tired to go out for a walk around. just wanna stay in front of the computer and do nothing.

I just got here by a 10 hour train. the direct train from stuttgart to berlin should take about 5 hours but i took 10 hours, 4 transits, 2 times 40 mins wait, to cut the cost from 120 euro to 8 euro. yes, 8 euro. its supposed to be some weekend special 5 to go promotion and someone got the tickets, and asked random people online to join, which we then shared the costs and its 8 euros, so i basically was in a train for 10 hours with
1. an old chinese guy doctor whose studying phd in germany, he grad from nanjing uni and became a dr for a while in china and somehow went to US for some research work and then now in germany for PhD.
2. a german architect girl who is moving to berlin, cameback after working 2 yrs in new york, got hit by the financial crisis and had to move to berlin.
3. a quiet indian guy who doesnt speak much, from somewhere north india and studyng in germany.
4. a 22yr old guy whose job is making videos. he is going for some festival thingy near berlin.

so its cool to travelwith random people and its 10 hour train ride which means i have too much time i dont know what to talk about to these people.

anyways, also some update from the past week.

i spent a day in vienna, its a nice place tho it was raining a little. didnt have enough time and wished i could have spent more time at the castle.
i spent 2 days in budapest, met up with csilli and stayed at her hostel. i met her 1st time in sg, 2nd time in japan and here i am 3rd time in hungary. :D
Budapest is very nice and i started liking sending postcards after i wrote 9 postcards in budapest in front of a church. basically i got 8 postcards, and i started writing, sitting on a nice bench in front of a nice church. and after writing 8 to other people, i realize i gotta write 1 for myself, so i bought another one and wrote to myself :D
i was in Karlsruhe and stuttgart, met up fengying and her bf. It was kinda rush, most of the time rushing around, but i really i enjoy meeting people i know in some other place. and i got to view a little of the life of aSEP student. I think its really nice....

now that i am in berlin, gonna go around for tmr and day after, then will move on to stockholm.

Today is a good day.

It started off alittle boring. Its a Sunday and i have no plans. No where to go and stay at home for the day ? thats bad.

In the end it turned out to be not that bad. After lunch i went out with JianHua, or Jack. we went to pluck cherries. Its the 1st time as i remember that i actually climbed a tree. i real cherry tree. and it was fun. picking cherries and eating it on the tree. Its like something a kid would do. but we did it. end up picking lots of them and then i dropped by his place, he and his frens were playing mahjong. omg. so chinese...:P

Then its pool time with a few others, krajo, neha, manish, renaud.....its fun. havent played it since im here, turned out to be not that expensive coz we shared the cost among 5 of us....

then i got bored because i didnt want to have bread-y stuff for dinner. but those are the cheaper things around. Any non-bread, warm food will costs like 1000HuF(5USD) or so...

Then i decided to just go supermarket and get some random stuff and throw it into the pot and have a warm dinner. End up actually, a few packets of instant noodles, some cabbage, some frozen ham put into a pot of water cooked for 10 minutes can make a real good cheap tasty filling warm meal.

Not so good start, but GREAT DAY !

Interesting me.

Lithuania

Just came back from a Road Trip to Lithuania.

Its actually the first time i joined such trip, its really fun. We had a huge car which is more like a van. 8 of us went, 6 of us came back.

Saulius and kestas, the 2 lithuanian guy i get to know here in Gyor had their Erasmus or student exchange program ended and they are going back to Lithuania. and some crazy people came out with the idea of driving to lithuania to drop them off, so thats how the whole trip came about.

The trip going there started at 12 am and after crossing Slovakia, Czech and Poland we finally reached Lithuania Vilnius at 6pm. so its a 18 hours drive..we had only 2 drivers, a Hungarian and a French guy. they took turn to drive while others took turn to keep talking to them to keep them awake.

Vilnius is a nice city, tho it was raining at some point of time, i think its a nice city and from the suburb its alot of grey buildings. Its kinda sad but thats how it is because it was build for the worker class during the soviet times according to these lithuanian guys. And i never imagined i would really go to Lithuania, definitely not by car, but looking at the europe map and where the country is located, its definitely not a main tourist attraction. but its really a different story to visit a city when u have some friends there. It gives u a different feeling about the city for some reason.

Anyways, I will be doing Lithuania again. Because its in the plan for my long trip.

Thanks to Ryanair again, im doing my eastern europe trip...or baltic countries trip.

Budapest on 23rd June
Slovakia on 24th June
Frankfurt and Karlsruhe on 25th June
Berlin on ~ 27th June
Stockholm on 30th June
Riga on 2nd July
Estonia on ~ 4th July
Lithuania on ~ 7th July
Warsaw,Krakow on ~ 9th July
Back in Gyor on ~ 13th July

lets hope everything goes well.

Sports day

Today is fun. and tiring.

The school had a sports day. Sports day for most msians or singaporeans i guess it would be imagined as people having competition, running, 100m, 200m, or soccer, badminton and such. So its kinda different here. They call it sports day, but its more like a whole school beach outing.

So it was at this mini man made beach behind a club called lapos (its famous and every young people know where it is in gyor), the beach is just next to the danube river. So they had all sorts of activities like volleyball, soccer and things like that.

But something really embarassing happened. I wanted to do kayaking. I still rmb i did it a few times before, like those out door camps i used to be in when i was in form 4 and form 6, i even kayaked in the sea for like a few kilometers from island to island that time. But this time, in this very danube river, i fell into the water like 4 times. Great, so i had to move to canoeing which is like 4 person in a much bigger boat kinda thing. Good that i didnt make the canoe overturn. By the way, the water is cold. damn cold ok.

And i tried another thing they call water football. Probably its only popular in europe. Basically they have a small field filled with water and the bottom is made of plastic/cushion like material, so u can slide and fall down without hurting urself...still u do feel it when u fall. So basically its so slipery that u will either fall down or do a slide tackle every 2 minutes. which is fun !! They continuously spray water onto the field to keep it slipery....so the game kinda waste alot of water. thats why i said it might only be popular in europe, guess they love this game during summer....

and basically thats it for the morning. Sports day.

milan and bratislava

It turn out to be not rainy at all in both milan and bratislava....this proves that weather forecasts can be really really inaccurate.

Basically its a short trip, left on thursday took a nite bus to bratislava, walked around and "slept" in the airport, went over to milan, walked around whole day, stayed in the hotel room and went around again, sleep in the airport again and flew to bratislava nad walked around whole day again.

I think there is nothing much in Milan, its a decent city, but other than the cathedral really worth seeing, others are quite boring...

Bratislava is a really small city, and the square near the old town hall is nice, and the blue church is even better. The blue church is a must go if you are in bratislava, the whole church is basically painted blue and its really nice...especially after u see 100 other churches with similar colors and design..

Travelling is fun, its tiring  and its expensive...think i need to find some cheaper alternatives...

any suggestions?

Praha

It was a good trip. despite the rain in prague.

I remember this Argentina guy in the hostel came over when i was using the internet. He asked me to check the weather forecast. So it was Friday, the day when i arrived at prague. and the internet says its gonna rain heavily in Prague for both Saturday and Sunday and even Monday. Oh shit, we took so much effort and time, and the tiring 6 hours bus ride to prague and u telling me its gonna rain for the next few days that im here? Die..

So we ended up checking out nearly cities...maybe he wanna make a short trip to somewhere else to run away from the rain. At the end we both gave up because its raining in most cities in Europe except the london chunk, portugal spain chunk and athens chunk which is too far away to travel to.

But it ended up not too bad, like walking in the rain in Prague, having capucinno in the Old Town Square because of the rain, watching street performer sing and dance in the rain, and sipping the warm coffee in temperature like 15 or 20....its good...i had a chance to see the city this way which would not have happened if its a sunny day.

anyway, journey to prague was not really smooth also. We thought that we could have gotten a ticket on the bus, so we waited at the bus stop on Thursday evening, end up being told that no more tickets, we have to buy in advance after waiting for like 1 hour with all our luggage.

But something i learned during the trip. Check weather forecast before u make any travel plans. Change it if the weather is not as good as you think it will be.

And i really prefer to travel alone. much more relaxed and way more freedom......

Interesting me.

PS : playing with DSLR is really fun..i think i will get one some day..

Its called cultural experience, dude !

having been here for a little over a week, its interesting to be able to notice some differences in the culture.

Hungarians are meat eater. They eat lots of lots of meat. We usually say we eat rice with meat, but some say the Hungarians eat meat with meat. but from my experience, they serve huge portion of meat with little of rice or potatoes.

They are very open minded people, yet they are so closed up. We always know that, oh, asians are so conservative and westerners are so open minded and stuff, its kinda true. but its weird that they are so open minded yet at the same time so closed up. Closed up in the sense that they are not exactly the friendliest person on earth to get to know. I mean i am in a small city in hungary, people here dont usually see foreigners around, or maybe foreigners but not asians around. so its kinda normal they sometimes (ok,most of the time) give u some weird stare...i get this alot, not that i mind those staring. I think im used to being stared in a weird way here, but im ok with that, since its normal to stare at something u dont see often. but something interesting is, i usually see them staring at me and i try to be "friendly" and smile to them, but they would99% not smile back. Usual expression will be stone face looking at u, look at other places, turn their face around, look at the ground or something like that but NEVER smile back. Its weird that in Asia altho culturally we are conservative and such, but we are so used to smiling back at people. I mean if you are in asia, try go to the streets or trains, stare at some person for a while and when he noticed that u are staring at him, smile at him, im pretty sure 80% of the time at least that they would return u a smile. Not the same case here.

Education wise, i guess its well known that asians have strict respect, no fooling around in school kinda thing and europeans have the opposite. But being there and seeing the whole thing really is another story. First obvious thing is that they dont wear any uniforms to school. Then the whole idea of classroom education is totally different here where students are expected to participate and they are so free to do whatever they want. some of them playing PSP,cards, or some random games in class, people just walk to behind of the class and start playing with their PSP during class, girls start putting on make up in class, and so on so on so on....

well, thats it for now, more thoughts need to be organized.

random

I got on bus 14, i didnt know where it is going to. I sat on the bus, the bus passed by my apartment. I didnt get off. I sat in it for another 15minutes, i enjoyed the scenery.

I saw a guy coming up with a tesco brochure, i asked him. Do this bus goes to tesco? he said no. He offered to show me the way with his girlfriend. I said sure. I didnt know where i got off, we walked for a while, they showed me another bus stop and said i can get a bus to tesco there. Opposite of that bus stop is another mall. I went to the mall, walked around, came out and took bus number 2. I didnt know where it is going to, but i managed to get back to the city centre in the end.

Having a unlimited bus pass and being able to take random buses and enjoy the scenery is cool !

    London

Finally i managed to borrow a cable from viveka to transfer my pics over to my laptop and i just got my plug converter which allows me to charge my laptop and use it normally now.

With that, i shall upload some exciting pictures of london. :D

of course, the 1st flight was a jetstar to KL, then a msia airlines for the 1st time to london. its a 13hour flight. 4 movies, lots of sleeps, eat and drink non stop.
they serve good stuff, 1st meal fish and potatoes + white wine + ice cream. perfect for sleep after the meal
2nd meal, so so chicken rice, awesome salad and fruits + red wine. perfect for another sleep after the meal.

places of interest : potabello market. the place where notting hill is filmed.
buckingham pallace, the place where they have the changing of guards thingy. and of course the big big ben. o btw, the big ben is supposed to be called the palace of westminster, big ben is the bell in the clock tower thingy actually.

"london bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down,
London bridge is falling down, my fair lady"

its quite true, because only then i realized that the nice bridge that we always see in pictures and postcards are the tower bridge. the london bridge isthe one next to it which is old and ugly. thats why u can see i had to hold it up so that it doesnt fall down and with tower bridge im comfortably smiling coz it wont fall.

not to mention realizing the tower of london is not a tower but a castle where some king used to be staying in.

and there is also picture with sang ging and cherry at the eye.

of course there is this pictures of trains in london and picadilly circus. some supposedly famous tourist area. very crowded with tourists.

thats briefly about the trip about london. am gonna sleep. have to wake up early...sobsob..

    interesting me
